Read it and make up your own mind, but either of these oils will do the job . I use Brad Penn which is half the price of Mobil 4T and every bit as good.

+1.

The exact reasoning used by the shop that services my car (Hergesheimer Motor Sports, Lake Forest, Ca.) They recommended I use it especially because of track driving. It was changed the week before my last track day (Willow Springs Raceway) and the car was noticeable cooler.

In the interest of learning what I can about oil, I have read that document from LN a couple times now and it is great info. Still trying to educate myself from various sources like "Bob The Oil Guy" and the forum archives here and over at Rennlist.

It is VERY obvious that Brad Penn is the clear favorite amongst air-cooled Porsche owners and probably for good reason. I ran the old Kendall green stuff before it was Brad Penn, so it makes sense that the Brad Penn is now THE stuff. Personally, I was just hoping to run a fully synthetic oil, so that is the path I was heading down.

As for the cost, it seems somewhat irrelevant. If Brad Penn is $6/qt by the time it's shipped to my door and MB1 4T (or Redline, Amsoil, etc) is $10/qt at my FLAPS and we assume a 3k mile interval, we are talking about $0.013 per mile. So, let's just call it a penny and a half per mile to go to fully synthetic.....seems pretty reasonable to me.....and that's assuming a 3k mile interval, which is considered overkill by today's standards.

Anyway, as usual, ALL input it greatly appreciated.

I ran Mobil 1 racing motorcycle oil 10-40 in my 964 for two years with yearly oil changes at 8,000 miles. I did used oil analysis and results were plenty of Znp and detergents left. I think the v-twin oil is very similar. No need to change at 3,000 miles unless that's what you drive in one year.

I started off using Swepco in my 964, but soon thereafter switched to Redline. IMHO a group 5 base with all the good additives can't be beat. If it weren't easy to get Redline, I'd gladly use Motul 300v, but I'm able to get Redline semi-locally.
