Spoiler Controls Question
 

Hello- I bought my 90 C2 with a plain spoiler, not the retractable type. I then bought a lid with a retractable spoiler and hooked it up to the round pin type connector and a ground. It will not move when the hand switch on the console is operated. My next step is to check voltage at the pins when the switch is operated, and check to see if the motor operates. Interestingly, the pin connector had no jumpers on it, and the warning system never activated. When I scanned things with a Durometric unit, there were no fault codes stored. If the motor checks out, and there is nothing indicated at the pin connector when the switch is operated, what do I check next? Also-the wiring diagram shows a second control unit-where is it located? Thanks

on the tunnel in the footwell is a little carpet "trap-door" .
iirc , you buy a porsche link plug that goes into the wiring there when fitting a fixed spoiler .

also, a 90 model has 2 spoiler control units, both under the passenger seat. Let me know if you need more info on them..

Thanks rattlsnak-I finally figured all that out. In my case the po had simply removed fuse 37. I read your other post re relay r24 with interest. When you have a minute-could you post a list all the resources that pertain to the electronic systems in the 964 that you know about? Many thanks in advance.

OK-What systems do you check, in what sequence, and how, to diagnose a battery drain that occurs with the key off. I was thinking about going to the fusebox, pulling them one at a time, and checking for current across the terminals. But some may be on all the time, for a purpose. Thanks

first things first, using an ammeter, how much drain do you have on your system? (remove the negative battery terminal and put the meter in series between the post and cable. Make sure all doors/lights/hood light, etc are off )

Hi rattlsnak-I did the test and measured 30 ma which I believe is on the high side but ok, according to Streather. The battery load tested ok, so I probably need to hook up some sort of a battery maintainer. Thanks again for your help.

somebody on another forum just asked about stopping the airbag warning light when you fit an rs steering wheel .... thats when i remembered what the link plug was REALLY for !! :rolleyes:

a rule of thumb on the acceptable battery drain is to take the stated reserve capacity of the battery and divide it by 4, which will usually find you @ 30MA or so on todays batteries..
