993 weight coupe versus cab
I’m wondering if any members have corner balanced their stock 993s and could provide some aggregate weights in order to get an accurate apples to apples weight comparison of a coupe model versus cab.
I’ve looked through printed literature and there is no defined difference which I suspect is because they only print coupe weight. Also, the printed literature seems to round off at the nearest hundred. Anyone been on scales? Last edited by Jim2; 03-21-2010 at 11:22 AM.. |

With options, they will all weigh slightly different.

Have not weighed my C4 coupe but apparantly the cabs and coupes do weigh the same. From July 1994 Road and Track 911 Cabrio First Drive:
"Only the bottom part of the a pillars where they meet the platform was reinforced, while the rails under the doors are 0.5mm thicker than in the coupe. Admittedly the 911's short wheelbase help both torsional and longitudinal stiffness, but the net result is that, in strong contrast to most convertibles, the Porsche is not heavier than the corresponding coupe."

Greg, thank you for the insight. I bought a 993 cab, a deal I couldn't refuse. I’ve intentions to build it up as a light weight, high power to weight ratio turbo project which will replace my old 930 but a friend is trying to convince me to sell the cab and start with a coupe. Because I'm starting at a weight disadvantage with the 993 versus my 930 I got to thinking that I may have a leg up with the cab, but it appears not so based on your info. 993s are difficult to locate here and I don’t think I’ll bother holding out for a coupe unless something shows up in the near future.
Until now I never really gave much thought to the weight of coupes versus cabs. |
