993 engine heat/cooling fan

Couple of questions:

- How hot should the rear fenders get once the car is turned off? After a quick 20 minute drive at conservative RPMs, both rear fenders get very hot to the touch. I realize that the mufflers are under there, but it gets very hot.

- A related question, is there a cooling fan that should either stay on or come on after the engine is shut off? Once I turn the key off, I have no fans running even on a 80+ degree day after a 20 minute drive.

Sorry for he newbie 993 questions... this is my first 993 car.

thanks

Hot, no warm yes. 20min is hardly enough time to get the car "hot" Is it sitting out in the sun? After you turn the car off you will feel heat coming from the fender area.

Yes, there is a fan that turns on when the car is hot & turned off. It is temp activated, so you may not be getting the car hot enough. Mine has only kicked on a couple of times, it was way more then 20min of driving, & the car was hot.

What are your oil temps? Where is the needle?

If you want to turn on the fan, just turn the key to the on position for a bit, that will kick the fan on, & you will be able to feel the hot air from behind the car.

The temp gauge barely gets above the 9:00 position... Never near the red. I guess I'm just getting used to an oil cooled car again.

When i park the thing in a single car garage after a drive, it seems like I'm standing in a damn sauna. I guess 12 quarts of hot oil will do that!

In 20min it should not get that hot. Mine even on the track is about 8:00. What oil are you using, & are you sure your front oil cooler is working? The thermostat can stick, & keep oil from going to it. The front passenger fender should get warm also, & the fan should kick on @ your temps.

Sounds hot for only 20 mins. Did you check oil level when hot?

Here's what the gauge marks correspond to:

And a DIY on checking cooler fan operation.
