993 buying opinions Wanted
So I went & drove the 911 gen that I thought wanted. Drove a 88 targa & turbo. Came away slightly disappointed. The targa was cool in every way but lack of power & brakes. The 930 had way too much lag for me.
While there, I saw a 96 993 turbo with some Ruf accents that caught my eye. Great color. But @ high 60- low 70k, Im thinking for not much more,i might stretch for a 997 TT. I didn't get a chance to drive the 993 & hope to later this week. Questions. Are the 993s on their way up in value? What can I expect to pay for a clean 993 turbo? I see 50's-hi 70's online I really like the wb look of the 993 turbo, how hard are wb 2s to find & what do they cost? A lot slower? Are the 993 na cars easy to mod up for more hp? Any reliability/repair issues to be aware of with either? Also, newb question, did the 993 turbo come in targa or cab & did the 2s come wb targa or cab? TIA |

Answers to a few of your questions -
Production facts- -No 993 turbo targas were built by the factory. -Only 14 993 turbo cabs where built. Cant imagine the value... -All S cars were coupes. -4482 2S coupes were built compared to 6948 4S coupes, 5979 Tubos and 336 Tubo S coupes. 2S coupes should be slightly harder to come by than the turbos. Performance- I may get some flack for this, but na 993s are not easy to upgrade to gain any real performance. Things such as chips, air box mods and exhaust yield very small increases (if any) for the dollars spent. As far as the turbo versus the S in performance, the difference it HUGE. The 993 turbo was the fastest car in the world when produced... 0-60 in 3.8 seconds in 1997 was a big deal. The S cars share the same engine with the standard carerra which pulls 0-60 in roughly 5.2 seconds. I'll leave the rest of the answers to the many folks on the forum more knowledgeable than me.
