Customized live remaps vs. "Off-the-shelf" chip upgradess

Hi,
I wonder if any of you guys have specific experience and results from having your ECU customized remapped live on a dyno ?? And how this compares to the many of-the-shelf chip upgrades.

Any issues in letting a tuning company with only generic knowledge on the Motronic management (and a dyno) work on our cars ? I dont see that many offering this service for Porsche. How can that be ?

Stve @ '911 Chips' is very knowledgeable wrt the chips used in 964 & 993. he has both off the shelf chips which are good for stock cars or will customize a chip if you can provide fuel air ratios correlated to rpm, he can also modify where the rev limiter is.

I can't say enough about how good he is to work w/

yes - I know and agree. I have allready used the service of both Steve and Ingo. But my engine is far from stock and is running way too rich - even with the chip from Steve. So Im now ready for a "live" remap and this forces me to use a local tuning company here in Denmark.

But the fact that I only have heard about Steve W doing these remaps, makes me wonder why!. Is it that difficult ? Or is the market just too small for others ? Or ??

And considering how many non-stock 3.6 engines running around, I would be a little surprised if nobody choose to customize the ECU to match their individual changes. Anyone ??

There aren't too many folks w/ the skills and hardware to crack Bosch Motronic code, there just aren't that many of these cars running around and the last one was sold in the US in '95 in Europe in '98, the '96 up US OBD2 cars are even tougher.

Most folks that are interested in custom tuning will switch to Motec or other similar electronic management system that is designed to be user tunable.
