Motronic Speed Unit
I just purchased a 993 Targa and it came with a second motronic unit to boost the HP. When I installed the unit the car ran fine except at idle, the tach "bounced" a bit and the car would sometimes stall if the tach dropped to low. Any ideas? I left the unit in for about 500kms so it could map the engine (my understanding of how it works) and it still idled rough. I'd appreciate any insight anyone has regarding the speed chips and how long it can take for the car to adjust to the new unit.

It sounds like someone installed an aftermarket chip of questionable quality into your second DME. Normally, the idle should not bounce.
System adaptation depends on the type of 993 engine. What year 993 are we talking about? Is it a 95 with the 55-pin DME similar to the 964 or is it the later OBD-II style 88 pin DME and the varioram motor? Do you know if the car has any other modifications such as a lightened flyhweel, etc? Ingo

What year 993? It does matter. Does it do this all the time, or only when cold, or hot?
You might just try cleaning the ICV, it can make all the difference in the world. |
