I assume that the engine turns over, but just does not start. I would suspect that you are experiencing "vapor lock" in the gas (petrol) line.

My old 914 was always having this condition on hot stop-starts. I found that turning the key on, and allowing the fuel pump to run for a few seconds, then off, followed by on-wait-off, on-wait-off, would circulate the fuel and disperse the vapor. Then the car would start.

You need to tell us what happens when you turn the key? Does the starter crank over the engine normally? If not you have heat soak - either bad starter, solenoid or wiring.

I dug this up from Rennlist:

964 Hot Start Problem
From: "Adrian Streather" <adrian.streather@rheintalflug.com> Date: Mon, 4 Jun 2001
Dear Rory, This is an old Porsche problem. Uncommon on the 964s but not unheard of. before you go start changing the sensors I highly recommend youget the Bosch Hammer connected up straight after stopping after you have got it nice and hot.
The most common failures for this problem are,
Fuel Pump/DME relay
Fuel Pump Overheating
Fuel Pump Wiring damaged or other wiring damaged feeding the DME
Engine Temp Sensor II
Intake Air Temp Sensor
Check your fuel pressure
Check for air intake leak
Check operation of tank venting valve.
Try resetting the DME first of all. Turn ignition to run but not start then put fot on gas pedal for more than 11 seconds. Or my preferred way, gets around all these On Board Computer systems as well. Disconnect the battery for five minutes, reconnect battery, go for a drive lasting more than ten minutes without turning engine off,
Ciao,
Adrian.
