oil leak pics

Can someone help me identify this leak. I tried to tighten it but it just kept turning, so something is stripped. I do most of my own work so I'd just like to know the best route to correct this. I't right above the pipe with the rubber boot around it. thanks

Billy,

This leak is coming from above most likely. can you see in or get a mirror in behind the fuel injection and look at the very top and back of the motor? The part closest to the transmission? On the top of the motor in the back is the oil temp sending unit. They are not spendy and they can spring a leak. I would see if the oil is starting in that area. If so they are easy to replace and you would not have to drop the engine. There are wires on top of the unit that are easy to take off. The hard part is getting a clawfoot/open end wrench on the base and doing the 1/8 turns until it is loose enough to do by hand. Putting back on is just as easy. Make sure you mark each wire on top of the unit before you take them off (I use tape).

I did this recently on my 993 and there are some photos. Do a search on the 993 forum, oil, and my name.

EDITED: This is what an oil pressure sensor/oil temp sensor leak looks like from the top

The leak is actually close to the primary muffler side of car. The actual part that is leaking is a bolt or nut, you can't see it because I have a 10mm wrench on it. It is right above the air tube that connects with the rubber boot. It just keeps turning and turning. There's one on each side in same location.

Billy,

I am just not seeing the bolt you are referring to. If it will not tighten can it be loosened out or just pulled straight out by your fingers or vice grips? Can you feel around there and see if there is a nut behind the bolt? It might be made easier by removing the rubber boot.

If this is the passenger side there is an oil return tube that goes into the block at that stage, IF I am seeing the correct location as towards the transmission and IF I am not mistaken about your model/year. There is a small o-ring on this tube to create a seal. The tube is removed when changing the oil and the o-ring will wear out over time. I had a slight seapage out of this seal on the tube and it created a nice mess. Had to really get under the car to see it. Of course, my oil leak was compounded by the temp sensor springing a leak at about the same time.

Get under her with a bright light and a couple of rags. Wipe down the oil and see how high up it goes. Wear eye protection.

(Also, I always have everything double supported before I get under. You just never know when a jack or something will fail.)

I removed the primary muffler as well as the other pipe in front of the primary and indeed it was the cam cover bolt. It is located at the bottom closest to the case. As I said before the bolt just turns, so tomorrow I'll try to rethread the hole using helicoil. Thanks again
