964 Trunk Questions
 

My 964 arrived with the front carpet removed (looks like it was never re-installed after the PO installed a strut tower brace) and I have the carpet.

I have searched for trunk pics with no luck.

Is there a cover for the battery, or does the carpet just sit on top of the battery & terminals?

Is there a disc of some sort that fits on the spare tire rim?

My '92 964 has the trunk carpet which I think is complete, it just sits on top of the battery and spare no other covers.
I included a couple of pictures, pretty much out of site and protected by the carpet when installed.

Thanks for the help. I suppose that having a compressor would indeed make for a flatter top on the spare, huh?

Do the tools belong down with the pump?

The compressor would indeed make for a spare tire that can be used in the case of a flat tire. Mcharus posts some good pictures.

I keep my tools handy in the pouch under the strut brace but if you want to keep the center of gravity lower...

Yes, the tools shipped from Porsche down w/ the spare. According to Adrian Streather, the "flap" that many (including myself) keep the tools in now was originally intended for a collapsible, reflective-orange warning triangle that is required in all cars registered in the EU.

Not a good source, IMO. I've found another two major mistakes in his book while troubleshooting my car this weekend.

Can I ask a noob question...what holds in the battery-side of the jack?

In my car, one side of the jack is bolted in with a wingnut, but on the other side, it just flops around (rather close to the battery). It looks like there's meant to be some sort of holder or bracket there, but is missing in my car.

This is how mine looks, everything is under the carpet.

also confused as to what the factory intended position of the jack, the handle and the lug nut wrench is - can anyone please shed light on this ????

Yes, and does anyone have jack/handle storage photos? Maybe someone has photos from a concours or something. It would be nice to know how to stow these things as intended.

It depends on MY. There were two jacks used a scissor type with separate handle and an angle type with handle attached. They were placed in the are in front of the spare. The scissor type is mounted the other type fits in a felt bag and placed up front.

There are also several styles of carpet and two variations of plastic pieces up front.

Adrian has some errors no doubt but he was the first to attack the 964 and try to put some reason to their differences. There are literally hundreds of differences between the different MY's. Some major and some subtle. It is too much to post. Even parts with same part numbers sometimes vary. like the rear hubs of the 964 are similar but different. Both have three tabs vs the 360 centering hub used on the turbos and fronts but the later cars have a completely different design. Latches, pin switches, wiper arms and tons of other things changed over the years then you have a lot of 993 parts used on the late build 94 MY cars. It can be overwhelming trying to list them all.

Mcharus BTW the flap of tool kit gets folded over and then closed to prevent the tools falling out. Also the air pump is different with a light inside in the later cars. I also see you are missing the elastic strap on your front carpet which is designed to hold the leather pouch for the owners manual.

Maybe someone can pull up some photos from a concours for illustration.

I have never been happy with the way all the bits stow in the frunk and would like to see how it was originally intended. It's not a big deal, just a long term question mark for me.
