Battery cutoff switch
Hello- This forum has had quite a few posts on the subject of battery drawdown in 964 cars. Most posters seem to go with battery tenders. I have installed a tender in my car too-but now I am starting to get concerned about the potential for mice to sneak into the car via the gap in the hood gasket alongside the tender power cord wire. I suppose I could drill a separate hole for the wire and seal it with a gasket or silicone, but I don't like the idea of another break in the paint system. So-has anyone had any experience with the solenoid cutoff switch sold by our host? Is there any downside to leaving a 964 without power for weeks or even months, as during winter storage? Thanks for your answers!

what about losing your system adaptation everytime you disconnect the battery.
without a bosch hammer (i presume you dont have one) ... it is going to get expensive going back to a mechanic all the time. my car does not run as well without the system adaptation ... ie to clarify .. the idling is rough and often dips below 900rpm. Seemed to be fine after adaptation. Last edited by sml; 09-29-2010 at 05:14 AM.. |

I don't see a problem. I have disconnected my battery countless times and have had no issues with adaptation when I have reconnected. Mine is a 1990 model.

I am going to go ahead with the switch purchase and will post my after installation comments. Thanks for the replies.

Now in 993 land ...

You can just run the wire out of the hood and close the hood on it. There is enough give in the gasket where this is not an issue.
I would not disconnect the battery. George |
