I am new to this forum and may be getting a pre owned porsche. I wanted to get everyone's opinion and insight into the difference between air cooled and water cooled porsches.
I always hear "Porsche died after the 993" and "a real Porsche is air cooled" Is this a valid statement? Or does it spawn from envy of the newer faster and softer 996 Porsches? I would really like to know everyone's thoughts. I am looking to buy a pre owned 1994 Triple black Turbo 3.6. Happy new year everyone! |

IMHO the argument is a moot point. I've owned a '69S and a heavily modified '87 Carrera and currently have an '02 Carrera on order. Each car is porsche, each car is unique, each car is way fun. The '69 is a very primitive vehicle but that is what some people like.
I don't think the '02s are soft at all. With the sport suspension kit, Carrera wheels, 320 hp and torque a mile wide it is truly an awesome car, also the child seat fits in back. : ) Pete |

I drove an 81 911SC daily for 6 years and loved every minute. I now have a 996 Carrera and I like it just as much as the SC. I drive my Porsche daily, so ultimately , the 996 is a better car for my needs (good, quick defrost in the winter months!).
If I had the room, I would love to have an SC Targa for the summer months. My young son loved driving with the "lid" off. I'm sure that a decade from now, we will all be talking about how good the new water cooled cars really are. |
