Question Would you sell/trade your 964/993/996 for...

Okay, I'm posting this because I'm curious of what kind of responses it would get...obviously.

Anyways, if you had the chance to trade or sell your 911 for a Nissan Skyline GT-R, would you?

I'm assuming you know what they are...

...oh god...please, I hope guys know what they are...that'll make the question so much easier to answer...

Which Skyline? The new GTR, I am not sure. My biggest pet peeve is all wheel drive and I know the skyoines have that. I would have to do a back to back track comparison to see.

Yeah, either the R33 or the current R34. Skylines do have AWD, but it only engages when the rear tires slip. It isn't full time like Subaru or Mitsubishi...

I've just been to the Detroit Auto show preview night and so the question is timely:

Nissan Skyline - not for me. May be faster, may be quicker a to b but it lacks the "feel good" aspects of style and heritage (and those "to each their own" points are important to me - I'll confess to being shallow and I'll admit to wandering into my garage every so often just to look at my 964) Nissan 350Z looks great though....

Maserati - the new one - tastefully done but would need to drive -feels too much like a grand tourer

Aston - way too much money and the inside of the Vanquish looks like what I imagine an Amsterdam brothel to look like...

Ferrari - not my cup of tea (too many years rooting against them in GP racing)

Corvette - see reply to Skyline (with added thought that a 10 year old Corvette is just another old car - a 10 year old Porsche is still a supercar..)

Lexus Convertible - not a sports car

Jag XKR - ditto

BMW - M3 & M5 - nice but I like my wolves to look like wolves (I've driven the new hard top M3 and it is a good car which I'd take over the Skyline)...again I'd suggest these age quicker than 911's,

I could go on (and on) but suffice to say I spent the most of my time at the mother ship - the Porsche stand. I'm a little bit in shock at a 911 with wood trim inside (not my cup of tea) but really liked the new Targa. Here in snow-bound Michigan that makes more sense than my 964 Cab.

So in conclusion (and after way too much opionated stuff) I have to admit that there is no car I'd trade for my car - but I would like for it to have a stablemate of a 996 Targa and will just have to start working on my long suffering wife!

p.s. do watch out for the Nissan 350Z - that may give the Boxter some competition!

Just a side note...the Skyline has a plenty of heritage and whatnot. It has been around longer than the 911. The Skyline started in the late 50s and is still going strong today...

I don't confess to knowing what Skyline is but, this is irrevelant because I believe that most of us P-car owners have them as part of some childhood dream to drive the best example of automotive engineering (engineering triumph over design) that can be be had. The only car I'd trade my '91C2 for is a '96 twin turbo...zoooom!
