Strange noise in the dashboard?

Just parked the 993 in the garage after a short drive and noticed a strange buzzing noise in the dash. Turned the key on and off a couple of times, even started it a few times and the noise remained. Disconnected the battery and reconnected and the noise was gone.

Left the battery disconnected as a safety??

Any ideas? It sounded like a small motor running or maybe a relay buzzing. Sounded like it was directly behind the gage cluster. Definitely in the cabin as I could barely hear it in the front trunk.

thanks

Probably the climate control unit (CCU) cooling fan...Here's a link to a DIY for repairing it if you're so inclined... How to remove whirring sound from 993 dash - Rennlist Discussion Forums

If you don't fix it your battery will go dead.

Not necessarily...Sometimes this fan runs for a while after shutdown to cool the CCU, but the drain on the battery isn'tr significant unless the fan fails to shut off. Mine runs for a few minutes every time I shut the car down after running the AC and I've never had it drain the battery.

New to 964's, i have the same sound coming from my CCU fan...however my problem isn't the noise it is that it doesn't always shut off! Sometimes I will park the car and come back out the next morning and the damm thing is still running. Can I just pull the electric connection to the fan in the back of the CCU unit? What exactly does this do? Will my controls still work? For now I just pulled the number 1 fuse to stop the battery drain. . I know this post is out of date, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look here. Tore has done a nice job detailing a section on CCU fan running.
