Clutch on d'floor, clutch on d'floor....

93 RSA Clutch Goes to d' floor...

I'm guessin' it's the slave cylinder. Any chance it's the actual clutch master cylinder?

Symptoms are... it got harder to put in to gear at stops, then the pedal was on the floor the next time I went to take thew car out. Can easily put it in to gear w/out the enging running, if it's running w/ the clutch in, it's impossible. Easy enough to move the car around with what littlr clutch travel I have.... no strange sounds or grinding, no fluid anywhere from what I can see.

TIA

Pull the floorboard and see if the roll pin holding the pedal to the horizontal shaft hasn't failed leaving the pedal useless. Outside chance it could be the fault.
Good hunting.

You won't see fluid with a blown master or slave, the seals fail and the piston just passes through the fluid exerting no hydraulic force.

My rule of thumb is to replace both the master and slave as a pair. Too often the greater pressure exerted by a new one will cause the other old one to fail in short order.

Cheers!

Fred, roll pin looks good, thanks for suggesting. I believe Lil bastard has the right idea, I've oredeered both parts... let the knuckle bleeding begin!

Another cause could be from flushing the brakes. If the fluid level goes below the clutch feed in the brake reservoir you can get air in the line. Did this some months ago when I flushed a new to us ‘91’s brake system. Was going to do the clutch too so no problem. BTW I’ve seen very few hydro clutches that didn’t need flushing. Even on cars that appear to have been maintained well.
