Four wheel drive knob, 89-964

I have a 1989 964 so I have only one knob on my center council and it is for the four wheel drive. I didn’t get the owner’s manual when I bought the car. The knob will go right and left but will not stay in any position and no lights go on in the dash. Can someone tell me if this is correct or what should happen??

This is what Porsche calls The Traction Program switch. Turning it to the right locks the differentials (you'll get an indicator light) to move the car if you get stuck in snow, mud, sand etc. Turning the switch to the left cancels the lock-up.

You should only engage it when the car is stopped and not exceed 30 kph. The system will automatically release at 40 kph.

Thanks for the information. I tried it and I don't get any light and I don't hear anything. Is this vaccumed controled.
