1990 964 C4 Traction Control - Anybody know what this extra switch does???
I got my 964 from my Dad who was owner #3. There's an extra switch mounted in the carpet just to the right of the center console that I was hoping someone has seen before. It is a three-way switch on the outer knob and the inner knob is a free spinning variable type switch.
When the three-way switch is turned clockwise to the right, the LED that's situated below and in between the spoiler knob and the traction control knob in the center console goes AMBER, and the RED LED in the upper right section of the center console next to the "!" Cancel button does a long-short-short Morse Code type of flashing before going out. The amber LED stays lit. When the three-way switch is turned counter-clockwise, the LED between the spoiler knob and the traction control knob goes GREEN, and the RED LED in the upper right section of the center console next to the "!" Cancel button does the same long-short-short Morse Code type of flashing before going out. The green LED stays lit. When the three-way switch is set in the middle detente position, none of the lights light up. Has anyone seen this before? I haven't tried testing while driving as I wanted to get some other opinions first. Below is picture of what I'm talking about. Thanks! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291770582.jpg |
Looks exactly like a K40 radar detector (I know as I have the same switch). There should be a sensor in the front grill. You may also have one in the rear somewhere.

Okay, that makes sense because I've found cut wires up front and an unknown mounting bracket up front as well. There is also a similar bundle of wires that were cut that terminate under the steering wheel.
So was this a dealer option or an aftermarket item? Seems like it's pretty well integrated into the center console. Any information you have would be of interest. |
Thanks for ID'ing the switch...I googled and found archival documents on the K40 1000 and read up on all that it's supposed to do...I'm pretty sure the unit's been removed by a previous owner.
