993 s coversion....how does it affect resale?
Guys,
New to the board and looking at purchasing my first Porsche. I have found a 95 993 that has had an extensive conversion to an S. The car has 70k miles and has been up to date on services as well as coilovers, high performance brakes recent clutch has been done. How does the conversion affect the overall resale value of the car? Obviously guys like me that want that look and the upgrades like this, but overall should I pay a premium or take money off the top of a comparable non-s? Right now I am getting the car for high 20s which is comparable to a non-s given the mileage. Also, anyone know of a Porsche mechanic in the St. Peter, FL area that they can recommend for a PPI? Thanks, Tom |
A car dealer will tell you the value has gone down because of the mods. I would be concerned about how it was widened. All steel factory parts or fiberglass fenders etc? A repaint usually lowers the value of a 993 as well. If you like the car and the mods and there isn,t a premium on the price over a regular car then it might be a good buy. Be prepared to either keep it a long time or have a hard sell when you want to get rid of it. The market is stronger and more predictable for clean stock cars with appropriate records.

I would worry about accident history. Often people don't do body mods unless they are already in there due to an accident.
If it all checks out I'd say it is like a pool in real-estate: cost neutral. Pay as much as the standard model, definitely do not pay a premium. George |
Dj at Reeve's import motorcars in Tampa is very sharp and very helpful. I grew up with the guy that runs their VW side, he has worked there for nearly 20 years and he hooks me up with info from Dj when I need it. I think Dj has been there longer than my friend has and he really knows pcars.

backed out as the PPI wasn't very good. It was a black one that was on EBay. Looking at a 95 993 bone stock except PSS9 with 56k on odometer.
31 is asking price. |
What were the issues on the PPI?
Cheers, G |
Body kit was all fiberglass and glued and screwed. Paint drip on the door, what looked like masking lines on the fender, one bent lower control arm and tie rod end. Leaks from timing chain cover and valve covers(to be expected). Undercarriage tray was mangled a bit like it went over a curb or something.
Bent uca , tie rod and body kit chased me. Normally uca and tie rods loosen, not bend. Not confident in the car at 28k. |
Thanks for sharing. Sounds like I speculated correctly that the body mods were initiated by a wreck. Glad you had it checked out by a competent mechanic.
