Thinking About Selling 993

As this is the newest 911 I’ve ever owned, I thought I’d get some input. I’ll be putting my 993 up for sale in the spring and like to get an idea of its value. I swapped my ’87 even up for this 993 in October and put about 1500 miles on it before putting it away for the winter. It Passed NJ Inspection, no lights issues, and everything works as it should. I was thinking of asking $23,000 does that sound about right?

It’s a 1996, C2, Polar Silver with black interior. Just under 100,000 miles, 6 speed, Motor Sound Option, Factory Light Root Wood Dash, Root Wood Steering Wheel, 17” Wheels, Kenwood Radio with USB. It has a clean car fax and doesn’t seem to have had any paint work. The interior is clean, no rips or tears. Really clean and runs great.

Several members have asked about the Root Wood Option, so I thought I'd add a photo for those that have never seen it.

Hi Bob. Sorry to see you part with your car. I just bought my 95' 993 in November. It is a 6speed coupe with a little over 100k on the clock. It was very well maintained and had all records from day one. I paid 19k for it and was very happy with the transaction. I think 23k for your car seems fair. Just wait until spring as you mentioned. Did you but your car from a dealer in Lancaster Pa?

Chris,

This is the car from the Porsche Dealer in Lancaster. The buyer traded it to me for my '87...I'll be looking for something with a tip in the spring. If this was an automatic I would keep it, but the wife can't drive it so off it goes.

Nice looking car. I remember seeing it for sale on Autotrader I believe. It has quite a bit of woodgrain on the interior right?

Looks nice. I would have selected the newer 'Carrera' font for the side decals.

23k asking will sell it even in this market. It is a popular color, make sure you let the potential buyers know that the Carrera script can be taken off w/o issues.

Thanks guys for your input. The Carrera script was on the car when I got it and I was thinking about removing it in the spring. Not to my taste.

If you don't like it either, I'd pull the Carrera script. It spells: "I fiddled around with the car" and will only turn away people that look for a stock original car. That's the biggest buyer base.

Thanks again for all the advice. I'm torn between keeping it and selling it. If I didn't need the automatic it probably would stay with me. Thankfully I have until spring to make my decision.

What is that thing that looks like a basket handle from a 1995 doing on the back?

Is the wood just a veener applied over the regular dash, or is removal not possible?

Howard,

I'm not sure I'd call it a basket handle more like a small spoiler, it was factory installed though. The Root Wood option is also factory installed and I wouldn't attempt to remove it. It would probably be better to replace the dash, steering wheel and shift knob, if you were so inclined.

This is a great opportunity for your wife to show her devotion to you!

Spend a fun afternoon in the country teaching her to drive a stick and she'll be over the "I can't drive a stick" fear. Hey, I'm married so I know what kind of trouble I could be brewing up, but I've witnessed a couple mid-life stick-adverse adults get the hang of it...and pow! the light goes on in their heads...and you can almost hear them think, "I'm actually in complete control of this car...I'm driving for the first time!"

Plus she'd be driving a Porsche so that would make for quite a story.

I'm haven't really decided to sell it right now. I'll have to make a decision in the spring.
