Best valve cover gaskets....964
I see there are silicone and reusable gaskets available from our host for up to the 92 964 motor. I have a 91 M64.02, originally a Tiptronic motor....what changed? They are 1/2 the price of the oem gaskets. 964-105-902-00 is this the one I need?
TIA JB

While not a 3.6, I have used the silicone ones on my 92 Turbo, and they didn't work as well as the stock ones.
Wih that being said, my heads have been twin plugged, so that might have had something to do with it. Bill |

Only the Turbo would be the same as the early gaskets, as it was still based on the 930 motor, not the 964.
The stock gaskets on all 964 are rubber. The only upgrade would be to use the aluminum valve covers from a '92-'94 964 and ditch the corroded and warped magnesium ones that came on the '90 and '91.

On my 1991 turbo engine I elected to use the silicone gaskets because they are in-fact, reusable unlike the paper gaskets that came with the engine. During replacement I noticed that the sealing surfaces of the cover looked rough but the sealing surfaces on the cam carrier were smooth. I surface ground (on a flat plate and using some peel and stick 600 grit sandpaper) the covers and I was amazed how uneven they were. Since then, no leaks.
