spare tire size

Hello- Maybe this is a dumb question, but bear with me. I have a 90 cab with 17 inch turbo twists, which I like. However the inflatable spare tire that came with the car is on a 15 inch wheel. Is this normal? Now maybe the outside diameters are approximately equal when the spare is inflated, but intuitively, it seems that the spare ought to be of the same wheel diameter as the rest. If the spare is put on the rear and mated with a 17, will it cause damage to the transmission? Thanks in advance.

The spare is intended for low speed limp to repair...thats it..

Wont hurt to inflate it and clean it up to make sure it isnt rotted out

As far as damage to transmission it should not create a problem at minumum speeds for a minimum distance

It also helps to keep a few cans of fix a flat in the trunk..wont save a shredded tire but will plug a leak so you dont need to use the "death donut"
