Engine and mount removal Q

I noticed my engine mount has a lot of gap between the rubber and steel casing. Aside from installing new engine mounts. I also would like to pull the engine support and weld in the Rennline engine support reinforcement.

How difficult is it to pull the engine support with engine still on the car? What needs to come out to get to it?

Thanks.

it,s possible but quite involved probably the better part of a day. Found it explained on rennlist. I chose to wait until I have the engine out for a clutch Then chaincase gaskets at same time.

I dropped my engine and tranny in January 2011 to address the clutch, oil leaks and valve adjustment and rusty engine tins. Back then the mounts were good. I should have replaced them and reinforced the support.

It looks like the bumper, primary muffler, heat exchanger ducting. a/c bracket and engine rear tin need to come out.

Do I need to remove the harmonic balancer/crank pulley to get to the engine support?

I took some pics and would like to get some opinions if this is something urgent and needs to be done asap. I can see some evidence of cracks on the mounting point.
I already ordered the Rennline reinforcement and new mounts from Pelican,

The mounts are definitly sagging. I doubt the crossbeam will suddenly let go but it will continue to bend and get worse. Time to fix it is now.

Some say you can do it without removing the rear bumper. You do not need to remove the crank pulley to remove the carrier.

My other ride, 2011 truck, was into a hit and run this week and will go into the shop on Monday for the 5 day repair. So I need to drive the 964 for 5 days like a senior and hope the engine does not fall off.

Thanks for the link, it helps to see pictures. Glad to hear I do not have to remove the crank pulley as I do not have the tool.

I will get started hopefully next weekend.

Well, it's Saturday!!

Worked on removing the factory mounts to inspect the carrier. The carrier is fine. It is not cracked. So I will put off the Rennline carrier reinforcement until the next engine drop.
So I just replaced the mounts. Thank goodness. It raised the engine by at least 3/4".
Still working on putting the primary exhaust so I can test drive. I will post pictures of the old mount.
Thanks for the pictures on the link. It helped a lot.

To close this thread, I just replaced the mounts. The engine carrier was fine. What appeared as cracks on my pictures on the mounting points were just weld undercut on the metal plate.
