Electrical Issue

Hello, The Porsche in question is a 1996 993 C4 Cabriolet. The car has been a source of electrical inconvenience since my father passed it down to me 3-4 years ago. The car must have a trickle charger on the battery whenever it sits for longer than 2-3 days. The current battery is a red top Optima. Since spring is trying to arrive here in Northern Nevada, I'm starting to drive it again.

The Problem: When I hit the brakes, the horn sounds. This happens very randomly also. Usually when coming down a freeway off-ramp, or when I'm touching the brakes coming down a hill. But then like last week, sitting at a stop sign at my son's school in front of his peers, the horn honks.

My guess is a short because the horn sounds weak and feeble when it's sounding.

I'm looking for any help. I'm hoping it's easily solvable, since the problem just began. Any help is appreciated. Chris

This is one of those things with the 993 wheel. The rubber bumps on a frame the horn mounts to degrade over time. There are some fixes, such as replacing the rubber on the frame. I believe the rubber is not designed to be replaced, so it is a hack job, with testing to get the right clearance.
I do not know if the frame can be bought seperately.

And some advice, Pelican forum is Super Great for the early cars. Rennlist 993 Rennlist Discussion Forums forum gets a lot more 993 traffic, and the archive that is searchable lists some repairs of the horn.
