993 Cruise and Shocks
Ok - still getting used to my new (to me) 96 C4. The car rides and handles great but I think the shocks are a bit soft. Not having experience in one with fresh dampers I have no reference. Since there's no history of new ones being installed Im guessing they're still the stock units, with 65k on them. Is there any technical way to check that they're within spec?
Also, cruise control isnt working. Can anyone recommend a diagnostic procedure to find what's wrong (switch, servo, etc)? Thanks! |

I have a '97 C2 and my struts were gone at 50K miles...The general sense I got when researching the issue 3+ years ago is that they're usually worn out between 45-60K miles...Don't know of a "formal" test that can be done, but I'm sure someone here does...Most people referred to general sloppiness in the handling and a "bouncy" feel over bumps and undulations, which was exactly what I was experiencing. There are several solutions depending on what you want to do and how much money you want to spend.
Sorry, I've got nothing on the cruise control. T |

My 95 993's cruise control has not worked a couple of times. Most of the time it works great. I think it may have something to do with a "lock out" switch. Maybe on the emergency brake or the ignition switch. I know how this sounds, but I cannot find any other reason that it works great 99% of the time.
Update: Just read about a micro switch that can go bad if you have a manual trans. There is one at the return at the top of the clutch pedal. Try pulling up with the tip of your foot on the clutch while engaging the cruise. If it works, the switch is bad or misaligned. There is also one on the brake pedal, but that one disarms the cruise when it’s set. Last edited by bri450sl; 06-27-2011 at 02:56 AM.. Reason: update |
