964 Pulse Sensor Wiring details required
Cross-posted in Tech as well. Hopefully someone can help here or there.
I am working towards hooking up a 964 pulse sensor on a 3.6 motor to Megasquirt MS3X but I can't quite figure out what each pin in the sensor connector is for. Just to complicate this, the factory manual doesn't show a connector between the sensor and the DME, so I assume the numbers on the sensor in the diagram are same as pin numbers. The wiring diagram shows that the sensor has two shielded wires, one brown to DME 48, one white to DME 47. The sheild is grounded at [3] near the DME. What I need to know is what signal or voltage do each of these wires carry. Anyone know more about this than me? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1310481677.jpg |

Yes, I'm aware of that page in the manual.
My problem is that I can't tell whether or not the sensor needs to be supplied with a voltage from the ECU to operate (5V, 12V ?) or whether it just creates output pulses internally as the flywheel timing teeth pass by the magnetic sensor head. Reading a bit more into the test procedure, you could assume that if the ECU plug is disconnected for the oscilloscope test, it won't be getting any external power to help produce the 3V pulses, so maybe that's all there is to it. Hopefully, the Megasquirt ECU can be set to work with these pulses. Surely I'm not the first one to try to use MS3X on one of these engines  |
Sorry, I thought you only had the wiring diagrams....
I believe there is no external power source. The pulse is generated through induction, i.e. a small magnet passing in front of a small coil. |
Thanks for your input. I had pretty much arrived at the same conclusion.
