Rocker shaft fittment

Just removed my valve covers to do a valve adjustment and fix an oil leak and noticed that a few of my rocker shafts are protruding a bit. Just the beveled part (maybe 1/2cm at most). I found a few old threads about the topic, but read conflicting info. Are they supposed to be flush or protrude just a bit?

The shaft should protrude a bit on the thinner journal.

Thanks LouZ.

Took the valve covers today to get them media blasted, and unfortunately it looks as though this is going to get a bit more expensive than I anticipated. At least I figured out where the leak was coming from, and now have an excuse to get the CNC'd valve covers...

To anyone's opinion, which valve cover set out there would be the better option? Any difference in quality that anyone's seen?
