Question 993 door mirror access

The Electric Adjustment (and heating) on my door mirror (97 993 - 'Aero' morrors) has become intermittent following the morror being rotated by a car-wash.

Does anyone know how to remove the mirror-glass safely or otherwise get access to the connections/mechanism inside the mirror (hopefully without removing the door panel!) - I'm convinced it's just a loose connection?

The mirror glass can be removed by turning the locking wheel behind the glass itself. This wheel is in the same physical plane as the glass (it sits flat against the back of the glass). There is an access hole on the bottom of the mirror housing. Move the glass around until the locking wheel sits right above this hole. Then, using a small flat blade screwdriver, rotate this wheel until it unlocks. You only have to turn it a few degrees. The mirror might not come out right away. You’ll have to gently pry it out.

I developed the same intermittent problem in my '97 993 right after the mirror was swiveled in. Has anyone found a fix procedure for this driver's side power mirror failure. I have run some preliminary tests on the switch and I don't think the problem lies in the switch. Also, passenger side still works fine.
