Oil in Engine bay...My Bad

While in the process of removing the air box cover (to drill holes for that deep throaty sound upon acceleration) I removed the oil filler cap to gain better clearance
to remove the cover. All went well with the hole drilling and I replaced the cover in the same manner as I had removed it...Almost.

I took the car for a drive to hear what it sounded like...LOVE the Noise!
Pulled it back into the driveway and that's when my rectum started to pucker...
I spotted a trail of oil from as far as I could see down the street right up to and including into the driveway...I immediately knew what was wrong...
I FORGOT to put the oil filler cap back on!!!

I opened the engine bay hatch and sure enough, the cap was sitting right where I left it. I checked the oil level and it looks like I lost a quart (or two) dunno.

Problem is, it's all over the passenger side rear of the engine compartment! I thought about having it steam cleaned and then remembered horror stories about that. I also thought about removing the bottom engine pan and then carefully cleaning the area with some Simple Green and water solution, rinse and then letting it drain out the bottom.

That's when I decided to come here and ask for HELP! Any suggestions to clean this up will be greatly appreciated...Thank You!

Best Regards,

Tony - '90 Carrera-4 Cabriolet

There is no better rust proofing than motor oil .

Get the rags & brake cleaner can out and start wiping, also leave the under tray off your motor will thank you for it.

Do I jack the rear of the car up to get the pan off or is it possible to back the car up onto ramps with some home made gradual "pre-ramp" units? = (2x8's ,etc. )

Thanks!

Tony

I usually just use a floor jack on the rear jacking points. After jacking up one side, you'll have enough room to remove the undertray. Just be extra careful, your not using a jack stand.
