Cracks in Fan Housing
Hi,
The car is a 1995 993 C2 Tiptronic (M64.08 Engine) with 198,000 Miles. I removed the Fan Housing/Alternator/Impeller (Fan) Assembly to replace the Fan (missing blade) and found cracks in the Housing. See photo. The cracks are located outside the stud circle; the bigger cracks look like they may be the result of an impact and the smaller cracks are circumferential, at the base of the locating lip for the plastic Hub Extension. One stud boss is cracked. None appear new. Now let's put on our MRB (Material Review Board) hats. Do I ... A - Accept and Use-as-Is? B - Repair using Crack Repair Compound or ???? C - Return. Not an Option D - Scrap and Replace. Least preferred and most expensive. ![]()

Part needs to be media blasted and then what remains will tell you the answer.
Looks like one of the nuts holding the alternator in place was not torqued down properly causing it to vibrate and crack under load. I suspect after media blasting it might be usable but only one way to find out. GL
