Time to replace some speakers. What to get?
I have never done any audio work in a car, but one or both of my door speakers are getting pretty bad and sound like kazoos. I don't want anything fancy, just plug and play replacements. What to get?

Focal's are nice.

I just replaced all four crumbling speakers with MB Quart Onyx 5.25"'s and 4"'s. For the fronts I cut the mounting ring off the original speaker to use as a base to use the factory grill. Looks completely stock. I have a non-Hi-fi system.
In the rear, the magnet hit the seatbelt roller on the passenger side only. I removed the rubber donut on the speaker magnet and it fit perfect. I mounted the included crossovers in the door pocket and connected them to the original tweeters. Didn't use the MB quart tweeters; I was more interested in keeping the look stock. As for sound, I have a Becker CDR-220, no amp, and it's a Cabriolet so the sound quality is marginal especially with the top down. My wife is the only one who listens to the stereo. She's happy = I'm happy. Cost approx. 170.00. Hope this helps, D. |
Thanks. I'll pull mine, get measurements and then try the above.

Apparently it's important to mount to the door not just the card for best sound. I'm no expert.
