I just re-installed the throttle cable in my 1990 964 C-2 after looking for oil leaks on the top-side of the engine. I did refer to the Pelican Forum for assistance in the area of oil leak identification…and Oleg Perelet was quite helpful in this regard.
However, what should have been an easy process when it came to reconnecting the throttle cable ended up becoming a nightmare because I dropped the black plastic retainer clip that holds the barrel-shaped piece at the end of the cable…down where I couldn’t see it! I had to order a replacement part which meant a week delay in the repair. During that time, my memory about how the throttle body, cable, linkages, etc. worked together became blurry. Getting the new black retainer clip on required me to force the throttle cable arm back far enough to get my big hands in the work area and allow the cable to go back onto the new clip. This probably pushed the throttle body parts beyond their stress limits, and may have thrown something out of alignment…because something is now out of spec! While I did get the cable on, there’s now a ½ inch open GAP between the THROTTLE STOP (just left of the coil spring in the PHOTO), and the RED CONTACT BUTTON situated on top of the vertical black MICRO SWITCH (located BELOW the THROTTLE STOP and to the left of the coil spring. It is clearly shown in the enclosed Photo. Porsche Part #: 911 606 019 00). The PHOTO clearly shows the GAP I’m describing. My questions are: 1: Is the throttle stop supposed to remain in contact with the small red button when the gas pedal is not pushed? 2: If not, how does it work in relation to the red button? 3: How do I get rid of the gap?
