Looking for info on 964 C4 rally conversion

Hello

I'm looking for some more information on how to convert a 964 Carrera 4 to a real rally car...

What to do with suspension, gearbox, front diff, etc...

Thanks.

Dekens 02-03-2013 09:55 AM

Nobody?

I think it's probably too much money for most sane people. The initial conversion wouldn't be horrible, but the maintenance expense on a 964 C4 used under such conditions could be extreme.

Let's get some info. I'd build one as well. Cool idea

I thought a 964 C4 rallycar was popular in US...

Doesn't Jeff Zwart own one of them?

The rally gear ratios made for those C4 lightweights are über rare.
From a cost, reliability and performance standpoint I would seriously consider converting it over to a 993 C4 gearbox.

Those cars are so rare and valuable unmolested that you'd be nuts to modify one.

But I've consulted w/ guys that took pristine 993RS's and modified them too.

Modifying a belly button car is one thing but modifying the specials is another

As far as I recall, Ruf has/had the the parts on the shelf to add the manual locks/adjustments to the 964 driveline

Too much money, especially when you can get solid STi subarus for $25k.

I've always wondered. On cars where the heater ducting is removed, why have an open area between the fan and the case, and not have it sealed off to help force more air down over the engine?

more is not always better, the cooling system was designed to have x amount of air bled off through the heating system, whether it is routed to the cabin is irrelevant, heated air is always bled off and either used in the cabin or dumped beneath the car.

with no cabin heat setup the excess air still needs to be bled off

The C4 lightweight is really unique and too expensive to use.

I was thinking of building a 964 for rallying in Belgium. Doesn't have to be a C4, a C2 can also be good. In 2012 I was vice champion in historic rally with a 1973 RSR conversion, so I'm used driving a RWD car.

So info on any 964 rally car would be nice. If someone knows something for sale, please let me know.

I think that the only difference between 964C4 and 964 C4 lightweight is the ring&pinion (8:37) F&R, not the gear ratios

Did Anyone Complete RALLY SAFARI Build?

I am building a safari/rally car out of a 964 C4 and the bulk of my questions surround specing-out the suspension for this build. -- ANYONE?
