Terry,
If it is like the manual shift knob, it is a hard pull straight up off the shift stalk. Be carfull not to smack yourself in the face when it lets loose.
I took two long screwdrivers in parallell on both sides of the shift stalk and pulled up, per instructions posted on rennlist. It worked like a charm.

Does anyone know the answer to this for the auto shifter. I did the same as the first poster but have not had luck.

Thanks

rescrew the two screws back.
After you unscrew the click-knob plastic part, place a t-shirt on the shifter, hold it firmly and pull up. No twisting.
Be careful because when the shifter is off, there will be left the small rod in place.
If you pull up firmly and when it releases, your hands go back down, you will hurt your hands with the rod, thus the t-shirt

Thanks, That worked great. I just did not want to break it by pulling to hard. It actually already had a crack in the side so I might try to find another one.
