964 c4 ABS computer - BADLY corroded pins

Hello, all of you. I recently purchased a 964C4 that needs a bit of work - including the ABS computer. Has anyone successfully repinned the computer themselves? Is the 55 pin connector similar to the 55 pin ECU? At least 10-15 pins have disintegrated. The car drives well, but of course the ABS and PDAS aren't functional.
Alternatively, if you have a controller PN 96461812601 I'm all ears.

Thanks!
NJ

And if anyone has an alternative way to get the speedo working, that'll at least put me in a car that will pass inspection and buy me time to locate the ABS controller..

Thanks!

How about you solder the wires directly to the circuit board? I assume if the computer has connector problems to wire harnesses connector does as well.

The 964 ABS control unit is a very complicated construction with sandwitched PCB's and flex boards connecting them. The connector pins have all feed-trough capacitors and changing separate pins is not an easy task.
I have a lot of experience in electronics repair, but had to throw in the towel on this one. It's impossible to do with a reliable result without the proper spare parts as the complete connector, new flexiboard etc. Beware, the ABS unit is a very important safety feature in the car.
Cheers,
Tore

Thanks, both of you. Tore, I didn't recognize the feed-through capacitors - do they serve a filtering function?

I would guess they are noise filters yes.
Porsche later changed the connector and ABS unit mounting to point downwards to avoid the corrosion problem. I've heard it's getting very difficult to get replacement 964 ABS control units, and there may be at least two types around, one more scarce than the other. I do not know for more on this topic I'm afraid.
Cheers,
Tore

Thanks.

Strangely, the part number for the box in the car is 96461812600, yet there is a FCU (which suggests to me that the Speedo signal is coming from the ABS computer).
The car is a 1991.... did some come with the 96461812600 (speedo sender on trans) instead of the 96461812601 (no speedo sender)?

91 was the changeover year on the units.
If your car had the 00 unit, try it. The difference is that the 00 cars read the speed from the trans and the 01 units read from the left front wheel.
The 00 units are hard enough to find but the 01 units are just about impossible. I had to buy a new one once and it's painful.
Where are you located?

I'm in Hamilton, Ontario - not far from Toronto. I have a line on another 00 unit for a reasonable price. I may give it a try.

Has anyone used a programmable GPS speedo sender on these cars? The Tachman's Sky Drive GPS Speedometer Sensor/Sender

Question Everything can be fixed, think positive! ;-)

Today I rebuilt a 55pin connector for 964C4 ABS module. It's not easy but totally possible to do. You won't be able to find a replacement connector that fits straight on but there is a similar connector which can be modified to fit perfectly. Expect a full days work!

If anyone is interested in more information about this or would like to see some pictures, don't hesitate to contact me as I'm happy to share the information.

BUT what I am looking for are the schematics of the ABS module. I read on some pages that Porsche dislikes to reveal these. But perhaps some of you has them anyway? Would anyone be happy to share them?
In worst case I would be happy just to get information on the pinout for the cabling and I could work my way backwards thru the design. Not the easiest thing to do since it's 4-layer boards with some custom made circuits but it's worth to try, doing all this work for free for a friend...

My module number is: 0 265 106 014

Thanks in advance!

My shop manual drawings show the pin outs, but no schematics. What year pin-outs do you need? PM me you email address as I can't post them.
