hi all, I just got a 911 C4 (964) with 92000 km on it. I do have a couple of problems :- 1 had new clutch installed and now the pedal is very hard to push; 2 the shifter is fine with a cold engine but it becomes hard to select any gear when at warm, it seems that this is related with the clutch obviously; 3 - the heat is stuck on, in the dash section and keeping the louvers closed does not help....heat keeps coming, I checked all the controls under the bonnet and they all seem to move freely. Are there cable connection to the butterfly, and where?
Lastly the A/C is empty, and I don't know since when, would this be better recharged by a dealer?

Any suggestion will help. Thank you all
Nick

Your clutch problem is most likely related to the clutch slave cylinder, I am surprised it was not checked or replaced when the tranny was out. First try to bleed it, if that does not work, take it out and check it for proper operation and replace if necessary.
The failure of the servo motors in the HVAC system is very common as they age, please read THIS thread. While you are over on the rennlist forum search ToreB and go to his website, you will find all the info needed.
PS I found the website HERE

Oh no, that would be too easy. Cables are so 1925! These modern masterpieces use electric motors and drivers, so much more complicated than any old-tech cable!

I'd try an in-home R134 conversion first, find any leaks, and go from there. As above- expect rampant complexity.

Since ac system is empty you will need (at least) to replace the receiver drier (its in the left front fenderwell) and the orings to it as well as the o ring seals at the compressor lines), evacuate the system with a vacuum pump (a decent one is available for less that $100) for about three hours, then fill with oil charge and refrigerant.

If the aforesaid is too daunting for you then take it to a shop and have them do it. If you do this yourself your cost for materials is well under $200, any local shop can do this for you, its not magic because its a Porsche but there is the "Porsche Tax" that will be levied because...well...its a Porsche

Nick, I just noticed the mention of km so I assume you are not in USA, I dont know the availability of refrigerant where you are, etc but DONT take it to the dealer, any AC shop can accomplish this, the only real difference between the Porsche AC system and any other car is the length of the lines going from compressor to front and back (thats why you want as three hour evacuate instead of the usual 30 minute job)

The clutch problem may be the soft line to the slave cylinder, when they get old they expand which does not allow the pressure to build to properly operate the slave cylinder. Once the line is warm it gets soft and expands moreso than when cold.

THANK YOU ALL, I will check the slaves lines.
I am in Canada. I will have it done by the shop ( not Porsche) and advise them accordingly about what you suggested
Also, any chance anyone knows why the Computer in the odometer ( fuel consumption etc etc) it does not work.......not even turns on when I press the side lever.
Re the servo motors, I did check them and they all move when the inside levers/switch are moved. When I took off the two heaters elbow ( left and right side of the engine) I stuck my fingers felt two butterflies inside the housing and they flip freely, should there be more resistance, basically not flip unless the lever ( or is the temperature selector that moves the butterflies) is actuated?
Than you
Nick
