Which to bleed first. Clutch or brakes ?

Installed master/slave/ kinematic lever. Then I flushed clutch. Drove it. It felt much better. Read where I was supposed to bleed brakes with clutch. I did and it got worse. So I bled clutch again increasing psi to 18. No difference in shifting ? I only used 10psi on my power bleeder when bleeding brakes. Is this too low ? I'm going to bleed brakes once more increasing pressure. Any advise out there ? Thanks

I always bleed from the point farthest from the filler bottle to the nearest. In other words:

1. Passenger Rear Brake Caliper (outside then inside)
2. Clutch
3. Driver Rear Brake Caliper (ouside then inside)
4. Passenger Front Brake Caliper (outside then inside)
5. Driver Front Brake Caliper (outside then inside)

It may take a couple of flushes to releave all the air from the system after installing the new parts. It took 3-4 when I made some major changes last year to get the air out and get the brake and clutch feeling right again.

Also, can you actuate the ABS during the flush (air can sometimes get caught there).

Good Luck,

-Skip

I didnt think it mattered as the only thing the clutch and brakes share is the fluid reservoir..just remember that the feed for the clutch line from the reservoir sits up higher than the brakes and you need to keep the reservoir topped up..,

Wesley, which model do you have?

AFAIK, the C4's need to be bled using the Bosch "Hammer" tool, ie., it's not the same process as for C2's and Turbos.

not sure about the 993, but I was able to do it on my 964 C2 without the 'Hammer' by flipping the ignition key on and off (not starting the car) while the power bleeder was pushing the fluid and the bleed valve was open. I did it a few times per caliper side.

Thanks Skip. My 993 is a early ( feb ) build. I will try bleeding ABS in that manner. Maybe it'll work ?
