A/C replacement and PPI

S!,
I'm considering buying a 964 w/ 104k miles on the car. One of the things mentioned was that the A/C didn't work. Assuming the worst, what is the going price for replacing the main components of the A/C system? I believe I can do most of the work except for the gas charge, so I can save on labor. Has anyone replaced the A/C in their 964?

As a side note, which I should post elsewhere, does anyone know of a good Pcar mechanic in or near Burnsville, MN? I need to get a PPI performed before I get real serious about this potential purchase.

TIA,
Heinz

The fix for the ac could anything from a simple leaky scrhrader valve to a 15 hour R&R of the evaporator. So, your PPI should be done by someone whom has ac service equipment which includes an electronic leak detector (rather common an inexpensive today).

Your fortunate there are plenty of Porsche repair shops in that area, golf courses too.
I would imagine you want to know who service the car in the past and make a decision as to whether you want them to do the PPI or have new eyes look a the car.

Here are a few in that area, the natives can chime in:

Flat Six in Bloomington,
DJ in Minn
German Autoworks in Minn

Kuehl, do you happen to live near Burnsville? If not, it at least gives me a starting point with the shops you suggested. Out of the three suggested, do you have personal knowledge of the shop? Can you recommend one over the other?

Thanks for the info Kuehl!

Sincerely,
Brent

Brent,

Lol. No. We are NJ but we know the Porsche community.

There are literally dozens x dozens of qualified Porsche shops surrounding
Minneapolis. On any given day any of them can have a bad day .

To give you an idea of one of the three, simply visit their website,
say.. Flat Six,
look at their work on line, visit their shop, speak to the owner,
ask whom will do the PPI, how detailed will it be, what kind of written
report will you get, etc. Then ask around the local community: you got
avenues such as PP here, Rennlist, and the PCA Nord Stern Region contacts to get opinions.

The 964 has its hic-ups, just read the 964 forum section.
