Thank you very much for the information.
Just have to wait to get them strips and tackle this project.
Btw, those clips should be replaced as well as they get brittle and may break when removed.

This was one of the first things I did to my car. Some of my clips were broken and the long rubber gasket that runs the length of the sill flew off during my 11hr drive home, lol

I thought of you jetta when I read the OP. Vandit, picturing what that might have looked like made me smile a bit. Probably not so funny at the time.

Yea, I actually pulled over to see WTF was going on because I saw the rubber seal in the mirror (pass side) flapping around then fly off.

On a related note, the inside of my sill (oil line side) was filthy w/ built up grime and oil.

Me too!

The front of the gasket was tight and kept in place, but the back half had come off the grove and would whip up and down while driving. I used to have to stop and tuck-in the back of the gasket.

One down and few more to go.
Replacing the cover strips weren't that difficult, the passenger rear inner thumb nut was nearly impossible to get the nut in due to tight space and once it is in tightening it was another issue, but manageable. While there, get the area clean along with those side panels etc. Be sure to buy new clips (12 total) as most will break due to age.
Thanks for the pictures as they were much help.

hi there,
I am right in the middle of this project my self and I am facing 2 issues
First is that the last clip towards the rear, on both sides of the car, does not want to snap in. I had absoloutly no issue with any of the other but on the last one. there is no way despite a brand new white and red part. Any clue about what is going on?

Second is the shark fin on the right side, any tip on how to access and tigthen the nut way inside? it seems that I am not the only one to find it hard but, any tip?
thanks for your help! Seems that 911jettat you replaced the thumb nut by a clip, right? how did you deal with the large hole in the and made the red grommet stay in position?
thank!
Fab

It helps a lot if the wheel is off the car. I use a 1/4 drive deep socket with a short extension and just come in straight at the nut from around the oil line.
