Tiptronic gear selector won't shift
Just about got stranded a few minutes ago in my 1993 tiptronic 964. Ran to the store and when I came out to back out of the parking space the automatic gear shift lever was stuck in park.
Here is what I know. The spring loaded center knob on the shift lever will push in and release. I also can feel and hear a switch activate and feel it in the shift lever when the ignition switch is turned on right before the crank position. To get it to shift into drive from park I basically had to bang on the shift lever and it finally moved to the drive position. Now that I'm home it's stuck again in park. Where do I start? The tiptronic control unit under the drivers seat? Mabe a relay or start digging in around the shift lever? Anyone else with this tiptronic problem. Thanks Bill |

I went to the front main fuse/relay panel and found relay #24 which is called "selector lever lock" . I pulled this relay out and tried it without this relay plugged in and the car shifted fine.
I'm sure it's probably not safe to leave this relay out but it looks like this is possibly the problem. Our host says no longer available on this relay. Took it apart and didn't see any issues. Anyone ever repaired one? Porsche part number 964 618 145 00 |

Somehow, the shift is interlocked with the brake pedal- you can't shift from park without having the brake depressed. I would start by checking that switch which is probably what the relay controls.
