oil pressure gauge problems

Having some problems with my oil pressure gauge. First off yes there is oil in the car.

The oil pressure gauge will go down to 0. I will tap on the gauge and it wakes back up. I already changed the oil pressure switch and check the harness connection at the back of the gauge. The oil pressure light is also coming on. I am thinking the gauge may need to be rebuilt. Can anyone share some advice about what else to look for before I spend the money on rebuilding the gauge? Thanks

I would hook up a manual oil pressure gauge just for piece of mind. You didn't mention how many miles are on the engine.

had a similar problem with my 93 c2 964. once it warmed up and at idle, pressure gauge drops to 'danger will robinson' level. scared the sheet out of me (yes, lots of fresh oil).
Had my tech replace the sending unit. still a problem. checked gauges with his 964 and gauges were consistent and fine.
had him test pressure manually and all was fine.
now in process of replacing ground straps and cleaning contacts.
