Several 993 titptronic questions
We have a 1998 993 C2 Cab in our stable, and during a long spirited drive through windy mountain roads yesterday, I noticed that the tiptronic is not doing what I ask of it all of the time. This the 4 speed version, with the steering wheel buttons, which I believe is the second version of the tiptronic transmission. My main concerns are that the car is not revving to near redline before it will take itself out of first gear in manual. It wants to shift up at between 5800- 6200. It used to pull all the way to 6800 or so before taking itself out of first. Secondly, the tip is supposed to remember a downshift command that is executed at a time that would cause an over-rev condition, and execute the downshift when speed drops to a safe level. It is not remembering the command and I find myself having to re enter the command once my speed is low enough for it to be accepted. I have been using Swepco Hydraulic transmission oil as a Dextron substitute, and the fluid has only 3000 miles on it or so. i was told that Swepco was the hot ticket for these transmissions, but it was not specified what weight 10 or 20 wt. to use, but I used 20. My question is, can the tiptronic module be re - flashed, and or could my problems be due to a bad sensor or erroneous sensor input? Also who out there has experience with using swepco in these transmissions, and what is the correct weight. I do not want to hear about what is used in the 996 tips, as they are 5 speeds and use a totaly different fluid (ZF Lifeguard, which is not compatible with the 993 tip. Thanks for your help
