The Best Car Wax???
 

Hello All,

I was wondering what the best car wax was. I'm looking for the best all around wax as well as something I can just spray on the car and wipe off when I return from a day of pleasure driving. The car stays clean. (I don't drive it in the rain.) What I have been doing is going over it with a damp, soft terrycloth rag to get any smudges off as well as the bugs that got in my way. I've heard a lot about zymol. Is that the best stuff? Do they make a spray to take care of things in between full details? I gotta keep this baby shiny!

Zaino Bros make a great wax. Its a bit of a PITA the first time, because you need to prepare the paint etc... But then to maintain like you said just spray and buff!

I have also got great results by using Zymol products. I used in the past on my Guards Red 968 Zymol cleaner and the Blue Zymol wax with great results. Before the Zaino I used on my guards red 993 the new yellow Zymol and I was really pleased as well.

I like to keep my car clean too, but when I get the Porsche out of the garage for a road trip, its usually pretty dirt when I get home. My kids (3 and 7yrs old) also ride in the car, so I always have finger prints/smudges to clean up in addition to the road grime.
I used to clean the dirt film off my cars the same way you do. This is not a good way to remove the dirt. Your scratching the paint every time you do this !

Either wash or Dust and Detail spray it...
Washing - Wash the car with a car wash soap, never dish soap! Pick your favorite wash soap. I do not have one brand I use, what ever is on the shelf. It lasts a long time. The idea is to float away the dirt without rubbing it into your paint.

Pick your favorite detail spray. I like to spray on heavy, then gently wipe it off with out rubbing and turning the towel often. This is probably a waste of product, but since your buffing the car with this product, I want to make sure Im not rubbing dirt particles into the paint. After I do this step, then I come back and respray and detail using Micro Fiber towels, Turn the towels often and buffing as you go. I have a bag of 20 plus terry cloth and fiber towels or more and use most of them on a washing or washing and waxing.

I love detail spray and use is often, in fact I will be using it today to clean up from the weekend at Pomona swap meet.
I like all the Zymol products and is my preferred choice in detailing my car. The other brands of Car Cleaning products seem to be a little cheaper depending on the product, but I feel Im getting product. I like the detail spray by Zymol and use allot of it, but will use the other brands of detail spray if Im out.
Waxing-I would pre clean the paint first with a Paint Work Cleaner. It removes the imbedded dirt and removes small/minor scratches.

I use the Red Zymol wax on my 911, but see that its not on the site. I will add it with the Black version. If you need it sooner, just let me know. Its about double price of the other waxes, but I would like to hope its beneficial.
I have used the Zymol blue and it works well, but that's what you get at Costco. Its the generic version for the cleaning and waxing. It has abrasives in it.

Cheap, quick, and beautiful? Nothing beats Meguire's Quick Wax. Hell, it even has a pic of a 964 on it.

Everyone raves about Zaino. I have not yet tried it. I have had decent success with Auto Glym.

One Grand Blitz wax. Not spray on, but the best result of all mentioned, and I have used the others,

I've had good luck with Meguiar's gold wax. It is not the most durable wax (i.e. not good protection for an everday driver), but it does have the nicest shine of any product I've used. If you're just using it one a "Sunday" car, I don't think you could do much better than Meguiar's.

I've been using Zymol for the past 10 years and have had very good results, including a couple of local P-club concoure wins. As I'm getting low right now, and the cost is pretty high for their carbon wax, I'm making the shift to Griots brand. The cost of their chemicals is very reasonable and they get very good results. They also sell any and everything imaginable for detailing. For quick washes they sell a product called Speed Shine, works great.

In case you care the process I use for a full-on clean of the car is:

1. Wash with auto shampoo, using lambs wool mit
2. Rinse
3. Wash again (you'll be surprised what still comes off!)
4. Wash wheels with seperate cloth and bucket
5. Micro-fiber towel dry.
6. "Clay" the paint
7. Polish
8. Wax
9. Clean glass with glass cleaner
10. Have a beer!

This Christmas I'm asking for the Porter-Cable, random, orbital buffer from Griots, very nice.
