DIY ignition wire kit?
Pelican sells a very cost-effective ignition wire kit, part B8994-964R (or -964B for the black wires). The explanation is that they have M3 terminals that should screw directly into the factory-original Beru plug ends.
How do I know if these are usable with my Beru plugs ends? I do not want to damage what I have trying to unscrew something that isn't screwed into place. Is there a trick or I I just need to put a vice grip on the wire, a hand on the plug end, and twist until it comes off? $210 is a lot nicer than $512 if it will really work out. Thanks to anyone with experience to share! |

The guy who makes these for Pelican is a Rennlister (and a Pelican) they are good
Do this first : Put a quick shot of silicone spray under the boot (use the red extension on the sprayer), run a little screwdriver under the boot where it meets the wire to "break" if free and unscrew carefully Remember that these old wires have been subjected to temperature changes etc and there will be some sticking and/or corrosion but the silicone will help The new Bosch wire kit does NOT have the screw on/off terminals which makes it difficult to swap out gaskets etc (which they do not come with either)

I bought the NGK wire set that includes wires and connectors, but does not include clips or grommet hardware. As a result I had to take apart my old wires by unscrewing the ends. On about 1/4 of the wires, the metal threaded piece broke off the wire end and stay inside the boot. Because of this I'd think reusing the ends probably won't work out as smoothly as you plan.
Wow, that sucks. The NGK wires unscrewed like the OE wires and the ends are Beru. How do those Bosch wires come apart? Are they not serviceable at all? |

Looks like Pelican stocks Beru wire sets. Maybe I should spend some time trying to remove my ends before deciding?

How valuable is your time? I realize that the OEM wires are seemingly stupidly expensive, but there are times when the piecemeal solution ends up costing more in terms of time, skin off your knuckles, hunting down original parts that break, lost driving time and general frustration than going the OEM route.

Vandit there was a thread on rennlist about them, they are not serviceable (the grey ones) the ends wont unscrew (they are not Beru or Bosch)

You talked me into it. Easy way out. Thanks! I'll have plenty of skin off my knuckles from the other stuff I'm doing to the car right now, I'm sure. No sense adding to that list.
