993 suspension

Does anyone have any experience going from the OEM 993 shocks(monroe) to the Bilstein HD. I want to know if my ride quality/compliance will improve or if the Bilsteins will make it harsher still. I wonder if there is anything wrong with the OEM on my car because the word is they were found to be too soft when they first came out. This car has sat for alot of its life Thanks

I went from factory U.S. suspension to Bilstein HD and M030 springs several years ago. In addition to the improved (Lower) stance, I found that the handling was much improved over the stock setup and that the ride quality/compliance didn't change enough to make any difference to me at all. Of course, terms like "ride quality" are very subjective.

The common wisdom seems to be that the original Monroe shocks did not last very long. I replaced my originals with Bilstein HD's and MO33 springs and am very happy with the ride quality and ride height in my entirely street driven car. It is firm but compliant and not jarring over rough road surfaces.

Try to drive some cars with different setups before making a final decision. As TMc993 stated, ride quality is very subjective with intended usage being important.

there is almost no doubt that the HD's will provide a "harsher" ride.
will that be an issue for your personal tastes = ??????????????
many people justify their coilover purchase by assuming their oem shocks are wasted.
don't do it unless you want to adjust your car's ride height.
or
spend some cash to have the HDs valving adjusted.
or
buy adjustable, (bounce / rebound) coilovers such as KW V3s or Bilstein PSSSSSSS10

heresy?
maybe.
I like to deal with quantitatively measurable reality.
