Driver side ac fan working great until passenger side fan replaced ?

Anything that could cause the left ac fan to stop working when right one is replaced ? It was working great before I took before I took the right one out? I double checked my connections? Could I have fried something when I had to drive it with one fan in the car ? Thanks in advance.

I've been reading Tore B. Hvac pages. Swapping R14 and R04 did nothing. Supposedly good working left fan still dead ? Any ideas out there?

I've never messed with these fans so I don't know how hard they are to access, but if you can get to the electrical connector on the fan with a multimeter and see if it's getting voltage you can start narrowing down possible causes.

Thanks. I just don't get how this motor can work great until I take the opposing bad one out for a couple of days. Drive it a little. Now it's not working

What kind of connections were there that you touched on the fan you replaced? Maybe something that should have been parallel ended up in series or vice versa?

Two wires to the bad motor. The Plug to the fans. The final stage amplifier plug. not much to go wrong I thought?

Seems like there's not a lot of chance for failure there. Do you have the wiring diagram for the car? What year is yours? I can check my wiring diagrams (they're per-year) and see if there are any obvious points of failure that catch my eye.

Can you put a multimeter on the positive and ground wires to the offending motor and see if you have current?

Any luck with the multimeter? If it makes you feel better, I am waiting for a rebuilt alternator to show up on Monday or Tuesday. It seems that the first time I put in the engine, the high voltage terminal on the starter made contact with the heat duct, wore through the fabric, and shorted out to the metal coil. This scorched part of the heat duct itself. I repaired that with duct tape and wrapped the ring terminal on the alternator wire with electrical tape, but after a few days of driving I found that the battery was draining rapidly. It started fine Wednesday morning, but at noon it was so dead that the door locks didn't even try to open. I put a charger on it to get home and checked again after supper, to find a dead battery again. I decided that the alternator could do for replacement anyhow and may have been fried by the short circuit, then vacuumed out a family of baby mice and their home from the top of cylinder #2, and adjusted the angle of the battery-to-starter cable at the starter to avoid further contact with the heat duct. It seems that we both have electrical issues now that our clutches are working properly.

Still haven't pulled that fan motor yet. Extremely busy with a parent in hospital. I had to replace my alternator also about a year ago. Gave me a chance to powder coat the fan red and change out the bearing. Oh the joys of a porsche owner!!!

That's good news. Wires like to find the most hostile part of their environment and rub up against it when you're not looking.
