Crankshaft Sensor/Wiring Question

My 1991 964C4 would not start. I took it in to a local shop (Autoscope – Park Cities Dallas). Their Bosch Hammer threw off error codes from the crankshaft/reference sensor.

On checking they found that the sensor in my car was not the correct part and that the loom had been spliced into to allow a different plug to be fitted to the loom to connect to the incorrect sensor.

The part number for the sensor on my car is Bosch 0 261 210 205. The correct part for my car according to Autoscope is 0 261 210 059.

As the engine was fully rebuilt less than 1500 miles ago I am checking with Jim Buckley, the engine builder as to his knowledge.

Autoscope tell me (a) they are unsure why this would be done and (b) they cannot replace the failed part until they find the correct plug for the 964 harness.

Any ideas or thoughts would be very welcome.

In particular has anyone any guidance as to how to source the the correct plug to allow the correct part (0 261 210 059) to connect to the wiring harness???

Thank you

Ruairidh,
Cannot speak directly to the part numbers or your year car but the plug to the 964 was updated, so if the plug needs to be changed, you will have to splice into the original and update, just had to do mine. You can search at this sponsor's website for more info.
biggles.
