Front spindle nuts....Thoughts?
Evening folks,
So, as part of installing 4-channel traction control on the car, as part of the project linked below, I needed to remove the M22 front hub spindle bolts. A few months ago I bought a pair of replacement nuts; as they're a prevailing torque design, they're a once-only use item. This evening, I just happened to be tidying up, and had the old and new nuts side-by-side. ![]() It's definitely the correct part according to the PET (illustration 401-05, Item#16, 999 090 008 02) and ordered from my local OPC...but it's way shorter than the one's that have come off. Same part number for the rear driveshafts, although not eyeballed them yet. Anyone have any thoughts? Is this a part number revision, perhaps? Hoping that the suspension oracle Mr Verburg sees it and comments! TIA Spencer.

Spencer, I replaced the nuts when I pulled the rear drive shafts off a couple of years ago. I purchased new nuts from our host and they looked like your replacement nut. Tightened up properly and worked okay on the rear, but I have no experience with the front ones.

Are the old ones also a once-use only design? If they are not, then perhaps the extra threads account for the difference.

I'm pretty sure that the tip of the old nuts have a deformation in the same way as the new ones do; they unscrewed a fair bit easier once 5/6mm of the nut had disengaged from the bolt. Thanks for the suggestion, fellow Exige owner
