964 windshield replacement

Hi
I'm considering replacing this windshield myself.
1991 964 targa
The glass isn't cracked or broken but it has so many tiny pits and scratches i'm looking forward to crystal clear vision!!
As a long-time GM tech with a full complement of tools, i feel confident i can handle the job with instuctions in hand.
Is there a detailed R&R procedure anywhere??
i haven't been able to find one.........
I do plan to replace the gasket with a new Pelican part.
Any other tips from anyone who has done this??
Any suggestions on what maker glass to use?? or avoid??
Thx

Just replaced mine, $615 installed. Not a easy job. I called the body shop that does the body work for the local Porsche Dealer and they gave me the number of the guys they use for glass. Beautiful job. Even got the old one out without breaking it. If your gasket isn't all oxidized, torn, messed up, it can usually be reused. I had a new one waiting, didn't need it. 2 friends that have had theirs replaced after me were able to reuse their seal too.

When the windshield is out, check the lower corners of the seal channel for rust, don't put the new one in if there is rust, fix it first. I know, pia. But if you don't the rust will lift the new one and eventually the paint.

I really suggest getting someone who knows Porsches to do the windshield. On Keith's RSA, the guy broke the windshied during the install, Keith doesn't have to pay for a new one, they do. It's a tricky install, save yourself the headache, it isn't that much more considering the windsheild to over $500 by itself.

Good Luck, Don

Thx Don
i have a tiny paint bubble along the bottom gasket edge so i figure there will be a rust repair when this glass is out, thats maybe another reason to do it myself, you know how we're all perfectionists, the only way to get it perfect is to do it ourselves!
I value your input and will consider having the install done by a shop.
thx for writing
