96 993 tip to 6spd conversion (possible?)
 

Hi,

I have a 96 993 that unfortunately is a tip and would like to look into converting it to a 6 speed.

Anyone have any insight into what is involved in this swap?
Computer? etc?

Just curious what your reason is for doing this...not judging, just curious!

None other than I want a six speed for the driving experience and enhanced performance.

I know 964's can be converted from Tip to stick. The good thing is you end up with a on board computer AND a 6 speed....

I was under the impression that the mounting between box and engine was slightly different on the manual compared to the tip so some modification may be necessary. I've seen a 964 thats had this conversion though, (to 6 speed 993 box from tip) so it must be possible.
If you can find a donor car with all the right parts it's probably worth doing but if you've just got the tranny you could spend a lot of time and $ finding all the other bits you will need.

The bodys and axles are similar and therfore it is just a bolt up, but you need all the parts including some little things most people will leave in the junked cars and then you will have to buy them new or organize them expensive. If you are doing that in a shop the costs will run out from any relation except those guys have the car direct beside for a bolt over.
