Inspecting Engine Internals - without splitting the case

How much of the engine internals can be inspected without splitting the case? What can be checked to determine if it is within spec?

I don't want to start my 964 engine without checking as much as I can.

Thanks for any help.

Did you just buy the car? Do you mean starting the car, or starting a rebuild Need more specifics.

Engine is on an engine stand.

I have found an issue with the exhaust valves, what can be checked if I remove the P and C's?

Pretty much everything but the bearings. Once you have the heads off you can see quite a bit

Thanks, can you measure the crank?

You can't measure the crank without splitting the case. How many miles? The bottom end is pretty robust.

Low miles - former race motor. I have it on an engine stand and need to have some cylinder head work completed, or replaced.

Thanks for the input.
